Pilates

Pilates focuses on the core with low-impact exercises. Classes emphasize alignment, breathing, coordination and balance through a sequential series of exercises. Much of the class is done on a mat on the floor. To keep the class interesting and challenging, the instructor uses a variety of props, such as light weights, balls or bands. Valerie provides modifications for all levels.  This is a beneficial class for dancers and non-dancers.

Our Instructor

 

Pictured is Valerie Moore-Colvert, our Pilates instructor.  Her education is in Dance Performance and Psychology, along with certifications in Group Fitness and Pilates.  She has been a dance educator and fitness instructor since 2004.  Valerie has also taught Ballet and Barre classes to children and seniors alike.  With an abundance of patience and smiles, Valerie will guide you through all the steps/movements to meet your dance and fitness goals.  Valerie also teaches our Beyond Basics Tap, Intermediate Tap, and our Fosse style Jazz class.

Pilates Class Information:

WHERE:  Palm Ridge dance studio.  This class is also available via the “Zoom” app.

WHEN:  Monday and Wednesday – 2:30 – 3:30 PM (all year)  

There are a few mats, stability balls, hand weights, stretch bands and small balls available in the studio, but if you have your own, please bring them along.

Classes are ongoing and registration can be done before the class session.

In addition to Pilates, our Tai Chi class might interest you as well.

COST:  Annual club dues are $15.00.  Fitness classes are virtual punch-card classes and cost depends on how many punches you want to purchase, $48 for 8 classes or $88 for 16 classes.  The virtual punch-cards have no expiration date and are non-transferable / non-refundable. Regular attendance ensures students build strength and skills.
